Bow River Angling Fly Fishing

“Unless one can enjoy himself fishing with the fly, even when his efforts are unrewarded, he loses much real pleasure. More than half the intense enjoyment of fly-fishing is derived from the beautiful surroundings, the satisfaction felt from being in the open air, the new lease of life secured thereby, and the many, many pleasant recollections of all one has seen, heard and done.” ~ Charles F. Orvis, 1886

Join the many anglers that come to the Bow River in hope of landing a trophy Brown or Rainbow Trout.

The Lower Bow River is impressive and has been described as, “a fly fisherman’s paradise”… “fly fishing magic”… and is famously dubbed as “the Blue Ribbon Bow” by author Jim McLennan.

TroutThe “Blue Ribbon Bow” stretch located downstream of the City of Calgary is well known as one of the best fisheries in North America, and is famous for hosting over 2,500 trophy Brown and Rainbow Trout per river mile, averaging from 16 to 20 inches with many trout over 24 inches. This section of the Bow River has it all, slow deep holes, riffles, fast runs, side channels and dancing waters as it carves its way approximately 50 miles through spectacular valleys to Carseland. At every turn, there is water for every type of fly-fishing. Either by boat or by wading out to fish the riffles and pools, the pursued Browns and the Rainbows always put on a hard pulling, high flying, and magnificent demonstration! In addition to the trout, this valley hosts a variety of wildlife from deer, pheasants, waterfowl, eagles, and white pelicans.

Based in Calgary, Tony Cassar with over 30 years of professional guiding on the world famous Bow River, provides first-rate guided fly-fishing trips. Tony intimately knows every inch of the Bow River waters, current insect and hatches activity, what the fish are presently eating, and most of all he claims to know how the fish think! In terms of fishing, Tony is personable, has a great sense of humor, is patient, happy to share his knowledge of the river, and takes pleasure in watching his satisfied clients leave at the end of the trip with a magnificent memory of “fooling” the trout with a fly!
